Instant coffee or filter coffee: Which one is the best?

Coffee is one of the most healthy beverages. Around 2.2 Billion cups of coffee are consumed every day in the world. Well, that’s a huge number. There are two types of coffee: instant coffee and filter or ground coffee. Each of them has its pros and cons, so today we will try to put some light on it.

instant vs filter coffee

Ease of use:

When it comes to ease of use, instant coffee is way ahead of filter coffee, it takes around 15 seconds to prepare, you just add some instant coffee powder into hot water and that’s it. Whereas for filter coffee you need different types of tools. Some like to prepare coffee using a filter, some like Moka Pot, some like Aeropress etc. you get the idea. And each of them has some learning curve and takes at least few minutes to prepare a cup of coffee or two.

Flavour:

It is one of the most important reasons why people drink coffee. It tastes wonderful. If you haven’t tried it yet, you are missing on a great flavour. When it comes to taste and flavour, filter coffee is the winner, most of the instant coffee is manufactured using low-quality beans like Robusta, so the flavour is also not great, it also losses its all essential oils. On the other hands, people prefer fresh Arabica beans for filter coffee, it also retains all its essential oils, so it tastes like heaven.

Caffeine:

Instant coffee has about half the caffeine of fresh coffee. This difference is due to the process of manufacturing instant coffee, coffee itself losses a lot of essentials oil reducing caffeine. So if you like caffeine in your blood, filter coffee would suit you best.

Serenity:

Instant coffee is quick and fast and so, many people sacrifice taste for this luxury. And on the other hand, preparing a cup of filter coffee can be serene, peaceful and beneficial for your mental health. Yes, it takes some time, but that is a gift in itself, it’s difficult to explain in text, you should try it, then only it will make sense. Many people even find it therapeutic. It’s all about the experience.

Cost:

It depends on the quality of the coffee. But usually, instant coffee is cheaper then filter coffee. Also, you don’t need any tool to prepare it, so that is also cost-efficient. But in the end, it all comes to what you like.

Which one should you buy?

Chances are you have tried instant coffee because at least in India, it’s used in almost every home because of its simplicity but at the same time if you ask any barista, they call instant coffee as “devil’s brew masquerading as coffee”. Let me make it easy for you to choose from. If you want a quick coffee that does the job, go for instant coffee. And if you are someone who wants to enjoy the process, live the experience, and taste the flavours of pure arabica coffee, then you must choose filter coffee.

If you reached this far, let me tell you, getting a good instant coffee or filter coffee is not easy, as most of the coffee out there are either not good quality or have too much cheap robusta in it. We at Brew Overlord provides the best quality coffee there is. If you want to try something unique, try Cocoa and Masala coffee. If you want traditional coffee, try our French Blend and Pure Arabica.
